YMCA creates new fund

Posted on January 3, 2017

The YMCA of the Blue Water Area recently created the YMCA of the Blue Water Area Endowment Fund to help support the programs and services of the local YMCA.

“This fund has been created so that friends of the YMCA who are committed to helping to extend its influence beyond their own lifetime can designate gifts or assets they have accumulated to the YMCA’s Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation,” said Denise Brooks, president and CEO of the YMCA. “Gifts to the YMCA of the Blue Water Area Endowment Fund will help provide life-changing opportunities for children, adults and families, and strengthen the bonds of community in the Blue Water Area for years to come.”

Some examples:

  • Build safer communities by teaching water safety so children learn how to be safe in and around the water – especially important in the Blue Water Area.
  • Inspire future leaders by nurturing every child’s potential through programs that empower children and teens to explore new interests, build relationships with peers, experience service to the community and have fun.
  • Spark brighter futures by enabling parents and family members to go to work knowing their children are in a safe and nurturing place where children can grow and learn while developing the building blocks of life.
  • Create a healthier community by creating support for individuals to develop healthy eating habits, increase physical activity and learn behaviors that benefit their health.

“For more than 125 years, the Y has nurtured the potential of youth and teens, improving the area’s health and well-being, and providing opportunities to give back and support our neighbors,” said Brooks.

All Y programs and services are designed to build the core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. The Y is a place for people of all faiths, races, abilities, ages and incomes.

The Community Foundation believes in endowment-building because this source of permanent capital helps organizations, like the YMCA, plan for a stable and secure future. More than 35 local nonprofits are already building endowments with the Foundation to benefit their organizations.

These endowment funds provide nonprofits with a reliable, ongoing source of financial support. The Foundation enhances a nonprofit’s efforts by providing excellent financial management and oversight and by leveraging our expertise.
