Valentine's Day Grants
The Community Foundation is partnering with the Times Herald to spread some love this Valentine’s Day!  Tell us why you LOVE your favorite nonprofit and they may be the recipient of a Valentine’s Day grant from the Community Foundation.  Ten organizations will be chosen as “finalists” and profiled by the Times Herald – so this is your chance to write the ultimate love note to an organization that you care about.

The community will have the opportunity to vote for our Valentine’s Day grant recipients, and the top two organizations will receive grants of at least $1,000 from the Community Foundation. There are over 100 nonprofits in St. Clair County and we want to hear stories about all of them!

Here are the details:

- Eligible organizations include public charities that are located in and serve St. Clair County.

- Nominations will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on February 5th.

- The ten finalists will be profiled by the Times Herald on February 12th and votes can be cast until midnight on February 14th at http://www.thetimesherald.com.

- Grant recipients will be announced the week following Valentine’s Day.

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is the largest public grant making foundation in Michigan’s Thumb Region.  The Foundation has over 125 donor accounts with assets totaling over $34 million, and awarded over $865,000 in grants in 2011.  Following the Foundation’s priorities of People and Place, countless organizations across the county were touched by the annual giving of the Foundation. Education was a top priority, receiving $275,478 in grants including $31,335 to St. Clair County RESA for early childhood literacy, KnowHow2Go and preschool backpacks. Additionally, over $108,000 were given away in scholarships. Arts and Culture in the area received over $138,000, Community Development was granted $142,000 and Health and Human Services Organizations received $174,000.

The council on Aging is a real blessing to me. I am widowed and the programs they have is helping me to come out of my shell. The Council on Aging helps older Americans that seem to be left out of the mix these days. I pray they get the extra help financially they need to help keep the programs that are so desparatly needed. Bless the people that can make this happen.
