Teens in Need top winner at 100+ Women Who Care

Posted on May 31, 2017

More than 160 women celebrated the power of the purse during 100+ Women Who Care on May 24.

The local philanthropists joined the Community Foundation’s Women’s Initiative at Sperry’s Dinner House for a fantastic night of giving by granting $10,000 back into our community.

The top winner of the night was Teens in Need with a $7,500 grant. Run through Marine City High School, Teens in Need is an ongoing effort to provide homeless and displaced students in the East China School District with the basic essentials they need in order to complete their education.

The other winners of the night were:

  • $1,000 to Blue Water Safe Horizons
  • $1,000 to Imagination Library – St. Clair County
  • $500 to the Women’s Initiative Endowment Fund

Blue Water Safe Horizons offers shelter and support services for survivors of domestic assault, elder abuse and homelessness. Imagination Library helps with literacy skills by providing registered children a new book each month until their fifth birthday.

The Women’s Initiative gives preference to funding programs, projects and initiatives that support educational growth and eliminate barriers impacting a child’s educational growth. To learn more about the fund, click here
