Second quarter grants surpass 1.4 million

The Community Foundation’s grant-making committees followed a strong first quarter with an even stronger second quarter with more than 1.45 million in year-to-date grants.

The largest percentage of grants has gone toward community and economic prosperity ($666,000+) as well as arts and culture ($241,000+). 

Community and economic prosperity grants benefited organizations located in Port Huron to Marine City and beyond. The Economic Development Alliance received $20,000 from the Community Capital Club for a pre-seed investment fund for area startups. Learn more about the Emerge Fund.

Port Huron Police Department’s Hometown Heroes received $12,000 from the James C. Acheson Fund, which will support the program for another two years. Inspired by the Community Foundation’s Come Home Reverse Scholarship, Hometown Heroes was started in 2015 and puts Port Huron area residents through the police academy. The Port Huron Museum was also awarded an $11,500 grant from the James C. Acheson Fund for maritime wing improvements.
