Raymond L. Wine

Raymond Lee Wine passed away peacefully on June 28, 2011. He was born March 17th, 1934 in Otsego, Michigan. He was 77. He spent most of his life in Port Huron, growing up with his older sister Marilyn, older brother Ron, and younger brother Jerry and his parents Frank and Dorothea Wine. He attended Port Huron High School where he was Vice President of his Senior Class and a member of the undefeated 1951 State Class A Championship football team. Ray played center and was named to the Scholastic Magazine All-American High School team. His efforts earned him enshrinement in the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame and a center/linebacker position on the University of Michigan football team under Coach Bennie Oosterbaan. Unfortunately, his time at Michigan was cut short when he was drafted by the United States Army during the Korean War. After his army service was over, Ray completed his undergraduate degree at Eastern Michigan University obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Upon graduation, Ray worked briefly for Parke Davis in Detroit. Afterward, he went to work as the Assistant to the Comptroller at Acheson Colloids Company in Port Huron. While there, Ray performed many different duties and assignments. In 1994, he retired as Vice President of Worldwide Manufacturing after serving the interests of the chemical company for 38 years. He was forever thankful for the opportunities afforded him by the Acheson family. Ray’s greatest joy was his family, especially his loving and lifelong companion, wife, and friend, JoAnn Hisscock.
He was a member of the Victors Club of the University of Michigan. He served at various times as president of the Port Huron Golf Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Blue Water Industrial Management Club. He was a member of the Scholarship Committee of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County. He also coached many youth sports and encouraged several young athletes over the years and was a past president of the Port Huron Northern Booster Club.
