P.S. You’re My Hero took home the $10,000 grant check from 100+ Women Who Care on May 19.

Mara McCalmon, formerly Skinner, gave a heartfelt speech on behalf of the organization.

P.S. You’re My Hero works to help victims and families of violent crimes maneuver difficult circumstances during the trial process alongside St. Clair County’s Victim’s Rights Unit.

Mara said something as minor as a cup of coffee can have a huge impact on victims as they go through the court system.

P.S. stands for Paul Skinner, Mara’s late husband and forever hero.

Paul died saving Mara’s life during violent home invasion attack. P.S. You’re My Hero honors Paul and Mara invites others to honor the hero in their life, such as police officers, emergency medical technicians, nurses, doctors, veterans, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters and friends.

Three organizations were in the running for the top prize. Runners-up Habitat for Humanity and People’s Clinic will each receive $500 grants.

In all, 145 women were in attendance and $15,400 was contributed to 100+ Women. The remaining $5,400 will be put into the Women’s Initiative endowment fund.
