Kids In Distress and the Community Foundation

Posted on March 19, 2010

While reading the March 17, 2010, edition of the Bluewater Voice you may have read the headline on page 11 “KIDS looking for a helping hand”.  The headline is correct, but the story misrepresented KIDS and also the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.
Community donors and partnerships allow KIDS to provide a weeks worth of clothing, personal hygiene items, school supplies, bedding and furniture to the most fragile at-risk population of children.  Through the generosity of this community we are able to provide this service for $10 - $15 per child.  Well below the $25 quoted in the article.

In 2009, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County developed a program to help organizations respond to the increasing demand for basic human needs such as food, shelter, clothing and medical care.  The June 4, 2009, Match Day program helped 20 local organizations raise $122,620 in one day!  Donations were matched by the Community Foundation $.50 on every $1.00.  KDIS received $14,770.82 and kept our doors open for the remainder of 2009.  The check was presented at the Community Foundation’s Annual Dinner on June 11, 2009.  The article inaccuracy reported that we had not received the funds yet.

Our donors are smart shoppers and want to impact the community in a positive way.  Reputation and accuracy is critical when evaluating any organization.  Please call to hear more about how you can have a positive impact on the lives of at-risk children through KIDS.

Thank You,

Jane Robinson
