Hundreds Attend Tree House Trek

Posted on October 12, 2009

imageHundreds of St. Clair County families attended the Tree House Trek on Saturday, at the Pine River Nature Center.  In the afternoon children enjoyed crafts, a treasure hunt and snacks. Detroit TV personality, Lila Lazarus led trek to the tree house in the evening and guests enjoyed a delicious barbeque, crackling bonfire and musical entertainment.

The Tree House Trek celebrated the first universally accessible tree house in the state of Michigan!  The tree house is located in the center of the 90-acre Pine River Nature Center and gives visitors a bird’s eye view of the forest and wetlands near the Pine River.  It can be reached from a handicapped accessible woodland trail, making the tree house experience available to children and adults of all abilities.  The tree house is designed to bring a sense of wonder and inspiration to visitors, and provide a destination point for the public to learn about and enjoy nature. The tree house was completed in partnership with St. Clair County RESA and is part of the Access to Recreation Initiative.

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has created a new, permanent endowment fund, name Access to Recreation, to allow communities to address accessibility issues for generations to come.

Thanks to the generous support of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, your gift to this fund will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $90,000.

Because this a permanent endowment fund meant to operate in perpetuity, Community Foundation staff can help you, your attorney or financial advisor arrange for gifts of real estate, stock, bonds, life insurance or various types of charitalbe trusts and annuities.

To donate:  Make checks payable to the Community Foundation and write “Access to Recreation” on the memo line.  Checks may be mailed to the Foundation at 516 McMorran Blvd., Port Huron, MI 48060
