Honoring Jim Acheson

Posted on June 19, 2009

image Slightly more than 400 people turned out for the Community Foundation’s 65th Anniversary Dinner on June 11th to honor Jim Acheson for his lifetime achievements in philanthropy.  It was the largest turnout for an annual dinner in the Foundation’s history.

Jim received several standing ovations during his humble acceptance speech, and deferred much of the credit to his father, Howard Acheson, who was one of the founders of the Community Foundation back in November of 1944 when it was then called the “Port Huron District Foundation.”image

To honor the spirit of Jim’s giving, he and Sue presented over $122,000 in grants to the nineteen nonprofit organizations that benefited from the Community Foundation’s Match Day program, which was held on June 4th.
