Gary Warwick, Sr. passed away quietly on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at the age of 73. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Port Huron to Eloise Ferrol and the late Amos F. Warwick. He married Carol R. Pickelhaupt in 1963, shortly after graduating from Port Huron High School in 1962. He went on to attend St Clair County Community College then completed the Apprenticeship program of the Detroit Council of Carpenters from which he retired in 1997.

Gary owned and operated Warwick Mask and Equipment Hockey shop. In 1969 he began making a new invention, the fiberglass goalie mask, to protect his face from the damage caused by hockey puck shots. To this day, his goalie masks are considered to be the benchmark in design, performance and durability.

As a global traveler, his passions included fly fishing, boating, architecture and fine dining. There wasn’t a day that his contagious smile or laugh wouldn’t brighten another person’s day. His love of sports and community made his skate sharpening business a hub for conversations and stories during the hockey season.
