Foundation Awards $338,000 in 1st Quarter Grants

The Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County announced just over $338,000 in grants at their first quarter board meeting held today. According to Chuck Kelly, chairman of the Foundation, most of the grants were approved by the Foundation’s various grantmaking committees since early January. Grants ranged in size from $150 that the Keewahdin Elementary Student Giving Circle gave to the Blue Water Humane Society and $97,555 to the Port Huron Museum from several sources, but primarily the Walter K. Brooks Fund.
Among the other highlights of the 46 different grants were;
- $10,000 to support renovations to the Yale Public Library
- $4,000 to the City of Algonac to support the redevelopment of the public pool and bath house at Lions Field
- $13,000 to the Port Huron Little League for facility improvements
- $3,000 to the Blue Water Jazz Society from the new Blue Water Arts Council
- Over $31,000 from the Father Bartone Fund to be split evenly between Holy Cross Schools in Marine City and the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit.
The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is the largest public grant making organization in Michigan’s Thumb Region.
