Donor Spotlight: Sue Ann Ostrom

Posted on October 16, 2017

A life-long county resident and a believer in the great work of the Community Foundation, Sue Ann Ostrom met with her professional advisor in 2016 and included the Foundation in her estate plan –making her a member of our Legacy Society.  But it wasn’t until she attended a Women’s Initiative event that she realized she is not only passionate about the Foundation, but more so about our Women’s Initiative and the support they provide for education and eliminating barriers impacting a child’s educational growth.

After spending decades working as a teacher, Sue recognizes the importance of removing such barriers so all students have the same chance of success. She is a fervent believer in the group’s initiatives like the pre-school tuition assistance program, which allows low income children access to quality childcare during their critical early developmental stages.

After graduating from Central Michigan University with her degree in education, Sue returned home to teach at Fillmore Elementary and shortly thereafter transferred to Garfield Elementary, where she taught for nearly 30 years.

Sue first became involved with the Foundation as one of our Back to School event volunteers and more recently as a donor.  She provided funding for the flagpole along the Blue Water River Walk in memory of her only sibling, David Fairfield Ostrom.  Since retiring in 2000, Sue now spends her time volunteering for Great Lakes K-9 Therapy Dog Club with her furry companions, Annie and Honey.

Like Sue, you too can find your passion and make a difference.
