Donor Advised Funds

Posted on January 29, 2020

Through more than 50 donor advised funds, the Community Foundation is privileged to support the charitable giving and passions of our local donors. More than $330,000 was granted from donor advised funds in 2019, supporting over 60 projects, programs and organizations, including national and international support.

Grant Highlights:

  • $30,000-  McLaren Port Huron, Ascension Hospital and Lake Huron Medical Center
  • $10,000 each to support individuals in our community through their battle with breast cancer
  • $11,000 – Athletic Factory – general support
  • $10,000 - YMCA – general support
  • $10,000 – Lexington Arts Council – Bach Festival
  • $7,500 – United Way of St. Clair County – general support
  • $2,000 – Sandwich Children’s Center, Center Sandwich, New Hampshire – general support
  • $1,000 - Doctors Without Borders – general support

Other organizations receiving support included:  American Red Cross/National Disaster Relief, Blue Water Habitat for Humanity, Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School, Difference Makers, Friends of the Fort Gratiot Light, Kids In Distress, Mid City Nutrition, Port Huron Museum and Port Huron Northern High School to name a few.

Donor advised funds (DAFs) have exploded in popularity because they can receive donations of appreciated stock, non-publicly traded assets, cash and more. A DAF can help make your giving simple and more meaningful.

Advantages of giving through a DAF:

  • Support charities you love now or over time
  • Grow your donation tax-free
  • Get just one tax receipt
  • Give anonymously, if you wish

Donor advised funds can provide broad support around the various charitable interests of our donors or they can be specifically focused. Donors have focused on things such as supporting veterans, the arts or we even have a fund that specifically supports dyslexia related organizations.

Whether there are causes that you are passionate about and want to support or you want to learn more about your giving options, a Donor Advised Fund can be the perfect solution to local, national and even global giving.
