Crosstown Showdown 2016 raises more than $19,700

Posted on October 25, 2016

A fall chill hung in the air Friday, Oct. 21 as blue and white uniforms faced off during the PHHS/PHN rivalry football game.

Over 250 attended the tailgate event and filled special bleachers seating during Crosstown Showdown 2016, a fundraising event hosted by the Port Huron Schools Endowment Fund to raise money for the schools.

“Despite the cold weather, and with the help of the heated tent and the great food, everyone had a great time,” said Dr. Randa Jundi-Samman, chair of the PHS Endowment Fund committee. “And many alumni donated to the endowment fund that night, on top of the generous sponsors who donated ahead of time.”

It was also a great night for the school district as $19,795 was raised.

These Crosstown Showdown proceeds will benefit the Port Huron Area School District Endowment Fund managed by the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, which supports the special programs, projects and operations of Port Huron Schools.

Created in the fall of 2010, this fund started with a $100,000 donation from the Stebbins Family Fund.

“Now, it has more than doubled, thanks to the many donors and sponsors,” Jundi-Samman said.

Jundi-Samman added Port Huron Central High School alumni and staff were honored during the event “for their legacy as they are and always will be a part of Port Huron Schools.”

In all 117 alumni and staff came for the pregame ceremony and walked on the field as their names were announced.
