Community Celebration Planned in Algonac
Posted on August 10, 2009
The joy of being surrounded by cool water on a hot day will be a reality for people of all abilities at the community swimming pool in Algonac. Through a collaboration of funding partners that include the City of Algonac, Clay Township, the State of Michigan DNR Trust Fund, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and many other local businesses, service clubs and individuals this momentous project is soon to become a reality.
Renovations to the pool at Lions Field will include the installation of a chair lift for the pool and the demolition and construction of a new, universally accessible bath house.
“This is definitely an accomplishment that should be celebrated,” stated Lynn Borg, vice president of the Community Foundation. “In these difficult economic times this community turned a $25,000 seed-grant from our Foundation into over $300,000 in funding. I am especially impressed with the partnership between Algonac and Clay Township.”
To celebrate and raise awareness of the project a kick-off -party has been scheduled for September 11, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the K of C Hall. The event will provide recognition for past donors and assist with the remaining fundraising goal of approximately $30,000. There is no charge to attend, but you must RSVP by calling Seaway Community Bank at (810) 794-1000.
The Extreme Pool Makeover is part of the Access to Recreation initiative through the Community Foundation of St. Clair County to create barrier-free, universal access to recreational opportunities throughout the area.
