Blue Water River Walk

By early April the Community Foundation expects to take title to almost one mile of St. Clair River shoreline on the south side of Port Huron. Noted philanthropist James C. Acheson has offered to donate almost the entire shoreline of Desmond Landing to the Foundation providing that the Foundation can implement a plan to restore natural habitat and guarantee public access in perpetuity.
In preparation for the gift, the Foundation convened a series of workshops in the fall of 2010, along with a bus tour for about 50 friends and partners of the Detroit Riverfront, to help envision what a “Blue Water River Walk” along the shores of the St. Clair River would look like. While modeled somewhat on the Detroit Riverfront, the goals for the Blue Water River Walk will focus on a more naturalized shoreline with easy access down to the water’s edge for fishing, skipping stones, looking for frogs, or just enjoying the view. The Foundation has also agreed to allow the county to build a section of the Bridge to Bay Trail through the property.
