Back to School a Joyous Success

Thanks to over 200 Donors, 350 Volunteers and Community Partners, Back to School events in Port Huron, Algonac, East China and Capac were a joyous success. The events, organized by the Women’s Initiative, impacted thousands of lives throughout the county and made the first day of school less stressful for low income children and families. The program touched lives in many ways including:
3,300 backpacks filled with school supplies given away
70,000 pounds of bulk food coordinated by Mid-City Nutrition
2,830 pairs of socks given out by the American Assoc. of University Women
3,360 kids received clothing vouchers from the Salvation Army
187 car booster seats were given out by Community Mental Health
2,000 free hot dogs and hamburgers cooked and served by Celebrity Chefs at the Port Huron event
