Algonac/Clay Fund Seeks Grant Applications

Posted on February 4, 2010

The Algonac/Clay Fund is announcing the availability of its 2010 grants.  Grants may be applied for until March 15, 2010.  The grant must benefit individuals or organizations directly in the City of Algonac or Township of Clay.  Applications are available at the Seaway Community Bank, 900 Pte. Tremble Rd., Algonac, MI 48001.  If you have any questions, you may contact either Bill Gratopp, Chairman of the Grant Giving Committee at 794-1069, or Seaway Community Bank at 794-1000.

The Algonac/Clay Community Fund was established in 2004.  The purpose of the Fund is to provide an endowment fund through the Community Foundation of St. Clair County, which will provide residents, businesses, organizations, and community groups an opportunity to invest in and improve the quality of life of the Algonac/Clay Community.  “Together we can make a difference.”

The amount available for the 2010 grant is in the neighborhood of $5000, almost double the $2700 we were able to give away last year.  The Algonac/Clay Fund is committed to make these amounts grow as much as possible each year.  Last year, we gave the Clay Township Fire Department $1200, the Algonac Elementary Neighborhood Project $500, and the Algonac Youth Football League $1000.

The Algonac/Clay Fund is an endowment fund; that is, the money that is contributed in the Fund never leaves it.  Only the income that the Fund earns will ever be used for grants.  A gift to the Fund, once given, keeps giving forever.

In addition, the Algonac/Clay Fund administers that portion of the ”Fuller-Hansen Educational Trust Fund” that will benefit City of Algonac and Township of Clay high school seniors who will continue their education in pursuits that will benefit mankind.

The 2010 grants will be awarded at the Fund’s annual Algonac/Clay Cinco de Mayo Dinner.  It will be held this year on Friday, May 7th at the Knights of Columbus Hall located on Mill and Marsh Streets.  The dinner/auction is a popular event and is the main fundraiser of the year for the Algonac/Clay Fund.  It features a great Mexican dinner with auctions and raffles.  Contact any board member for tickets, or you may call the Seaway Bank for tickets at 794-1000.
