2011 Scholarships Awards

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has awarded $125,000 in total scholarship assistance to 71 St. Clair County residents this year. Scholarships were awarded through 21 different scholarship funds, each with their own set of criteria.
The Howard A. Acheson Memorial Fund awarded a total of $30,500 to 18 students throughout the county who are pursuing a degree in chemistry or engineering, including Patrick Kostanecki (picture top right) and Patrick Godwin (picture bottom right). The Howard Acheson Fund has provided over $300,000 to over 110 students since 1999.
Two new scholarships were also awarded this year, the Alexander & Celestine Lamere Scholarship and the Beth Linscheid Duff Memorial Scholarship. The Lamere Scholarship, which was created to support Marine City High School students who will be attending
St. Clair County Community College, awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Hailey McCartney. Five students from Port Huron High School and Port Huron Northern High School who demonstrated the ability and desire to improve their communities received scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 from the Beth Linscheid Duff Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Over 30 committee members on 7 committees review applications and select recipients based on criteria set forth by the fund agreement established when the fund was designated by the donor. The Foundation received over 350 applications this year.
