2011 Goals and Objectives

Posted on February 14, 2011

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has finished updating its goals and objectives for 2011.

“We’re in the second year of our three-year cycle of strategic priorities,” said the chairman of the Foundation, Don Fletcher.  “So our board has tweaked and updated our plans and now we’re ready to start implementation.”

Fletcher said that at the Foundation’s January meeting of Trustees, the board discussed and agreed on some of the following highlights:

  • 1. Charitable Checkbook program:  this new matching program will replace “Match Day” and provide incentives for individuals, families or groups of giving circles to establish new donor advised funds at the Foundation.  The Foundation will match all gifts based on size.
  • 2. Proactive Grant Making:  Beginning with a meeting tomorrow morning in Marine City, the foundation will collaborate with the Blue Water Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and the St. Clair Chamber of Commerce to explore how to support community development projects in communities outside of Port Huron.
  • 3. College Access:  Keeping kids on a path towards college remains the Foundation’s #1 priority and the Foundation recently accepted a $50,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation.
  • 4. Blue Meets Green Strategic Plan:  The Foundation will continue to support the broad efforts of the region’s new economic development strategic plan.
  • 5. Annual Dinner:  The Foundation will move its annual dinner to November 10th to coincide with its founding anniversary date of November, 1944.
  • 6. River Walk:  The Foundation is close to finalizing the agreement with Acheson Ventures to accept over 4,000 lineal feet of St. Clair River Shoreline, which the Foundation plans to develop as a River Walk.

The Foundation’s primary strategic goals remain:

  • A. Education
  • B. Downtown & Community Development
  • C. Arts & Culture
  • D. Basic Needs & Human Services

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is the largest public foundation in Michigan’s Thumb region.  In addition to grantmaking the Foundation co-owns Studio 1219, a home for homeless teenagers, and the Acheson Community Resource Center.
