2009 Grants

Posted on December 17, 2009

Total grants, scholarships and awards by the Community Foundation in 2009 topped $1 million for the 6th consecutive year.  According to Chuck Kelly, Chairman of the Board, the Foundation’s ability to top the million dollar mark again was due to the incredible support from donors.  “We were more than pleasantly surprised by the response of our donors,” said Kelly.  “Our new Match Day program last June, along with Back to School in August, really motivated our donors to help us do more.”

The Foundation again saw a very diverse schedule of grants, including;

  • Over $34,000 in and around Algonac
  • $5,000 for the new Blue Water Film Festival
  • Funding for the arts stretching from Marine City to Lexington
  • Funding for math programs and technology at all middle schools in the county
  • Providing over $16,000 in funding to the Peoples’ Clinic
  • $16,275 to the Port Huron branch of the Salvation Army
  • Over $22,000 to Mid City Nutrition / Soup Kitchen
  • More than $47,000 for Back to School events in four communities
