$10,000 grant helps Belle River Access Site

Posted on October 27, 2016

An art pod was recently installed at the China Twp. Belle River Access Site with help from a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of St. Clair County’s Henry & Harriet Whiting Memorial Fund.

This interactive art piece, a metal globe fire pit inspired by the Trail Towns initiative, was commissioned by the St. Clair Art Association and reflects the area’s geography and history.

“The China Township Belle River Access Art Pod will encourage residents and tourists to travel between our towns exploring communities and experiencing their local art, nature and recreation,” said Jason Stier of the St. Clair Art Association’s public art committee. “This ‘creative place-making’ effort will help link communities and drive economic growth as it fosters a greater appreciation for the arts, our region and our true potential as an innovative community.”

Other new updates include a Michigan-shaped patio, picnic pavilion and seating near the firepit.
