Tunnel Explosion Memorial

On December 11th, 1971 one of the worst industrial accidents in the state of Michigan claimed 22 men’s lives and injured 11 others. These men were constructing a water inlet to provide millions of Michigan residents with drinking water. The project was completed, but the lives lost had been forgotten.

Now, a permanent memorial has been built and installed along the shores of Lake Huron in the Fort Gratiot County Park.

Gifts into this endowment fund will help cover all future maintenance and repairs to the monument.
