New year

Posted on January 10, 2012 by Randy Maiers

If we’re not going to have any snow this winter, we might as well start thinking ahead to the warm weather.  Yes, I know it’s only early January, but there are some early indicators that 2012 could be much better than 2011.

We’ve started off this new year with a modest start-up grant to support the efforts of the Blue Water Young Professionals.  Seeing that large group of 20-somethings start to take control and get involved in the broader community is something the Community Foundation is proud to support.

We have two new funding opportunities available this year.  In the area of education, we are offering grants in the category of “K-2 Reading Success.”  In this funding program we will consider requests for programs and projects that provide free books to stimluate reading in the home or classroom.  We are also open to considering grant requests to test the impact of iPads on reading in the classroom and at home.

In the arts, our Blue Water Arts Committee is looking for grant requests to support the advancement of public art throughout the region.  They are especially interested in seeing requests for permanent pieces of public art.

Grant applications for both of these programs are available here on our website.

Our Youth Advisory Council and our Grants Committee also have new funding budgets for 2012 and are looking for grant requests that target either of our four priority areas:  a) Community & Economic Development, b) Education, c) Arts & Culture, and d) Basic Needs and Human Services.

If you have questions about these funding programs, please contact Megan Wilson, or for the Youth Council, contact Lindsay Parslow.
