Match Day v2.0

You know, sometimes things just seem to fall into place and everything runs like you planned—-or even better. I once saw a definition of “Luck” which was as follows, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I like that definition. Luck isn’t always left to chance.
Last year as our Community Foundation tried to stretch our dollars in support of the basic needs in our community, we came accross an idea from another community foundation in Ohio. It was “Match Day.” The premise is quite simple, on one day only, the Community Foundation matches .50 cents on every dollar for gifts of $20 to $1,000. We pre-selected those organizations in St. Clair County that provided basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, medical care) to our residents in need. The one-day program we thought might raise $40,000 or so actually brought in $122,000! That’s not just a home run, it’s a grand slam.
This year we’re upping the ante. We’ve come up with $75,000 in matching dollars and on June 2nd—one day only—we’ll match .50 cents on the
dollar for gifts ranging from $20 to $1,000 to one or more of this year’s participating organizations.
Our goal is to raise a total of $225,000 (counting our matching gifts) for these local organizations and give 100% of all of that money out in grants at our June 26th Annual Dinner. Won’t you join us? Take a look at this year’s participating organizations and consider making a gift on Match
Day. We’ll turn your $100 gift into $150, your $500 gift into $750 and your $1,000 gift into $1,500 (you get the idea).
Then join us at our Annual Dinner on June 26th and celebrate with us as we give away $225,000!
